Prototypes, short runs and high production. We use the latest technology and a best-in-class production control system to assure you of better parts for less money with the shortest possible lead times. We make it easy to do business with us. We're really good at castings from 1 to 1000 lbs.

Best In Class

Our vision is to be best in class in the market segments we serve. We want to be measured and recognized as the best by our customers, suppliers, employees and community. We serve energy (oil and gas), refrigeration, power generation, automation, pump, and a host of other commercial markets. We make aerospace level castings for the Aircraft, Defense, and Commercial segments including Radiographic (X-Ray) Grades and DPT/LPT qualified. We routinely meet the strict requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) including castings operating at up to 5000 PSI in brutal environments.

Quality Nonferrous Castings Since 1869

We are experienced and we have been experienced for a long, long time. We are the oldest manufacturer in the state of Minnesota.

Registrations & Certifications

  • AS9100D Our quality management system is certified to AS9100 Rev D (2016) for our single site for the manufacture of brass, bronze and aluminum castings. Orion Registrar, Inc. is the certifying body and is a subsidiary of Amtivo. Quality Manual is available on request. Registration to this aerospace quality standard automatically certifies us to ISO 9001:2015
  • ISO 9001:2015 We are registered to ISO 9001:2015 for the manufacture of brass, bronze and aluminum castings by Orion Registrar, Inc. by inclusion in the AS9100 Rev D (2016) certification above.
  • We are TS16949 compliant.
  • We are casting PPAP experts.
  • We are ITAR registered with the United States Department of State
  • DD 2345 We are certified under the Joint Certification Program (JCP) for US and Canadian DoD.

Taking On the Toughest Challenges

Specializing in complex, highly-demanding, industrial castings and castings for land and maritime military systems. We use 3D solid models which we input into our flow and solidification simulation software to predict and eliminate defects before we build a tool.  We serve over 100 NAICS codes. Our castings are used in a wide variety of applications including those requiring X-Rays, Pressure Testing, Penetrant Testing, CE marking, NDT testing, sampling schedules, chemical and physical certifications, plating, polishing, or machining. We have two spectrometers for redundancy. We check chemistry of every batch of metal before we pour. We do PPAPs. We use our FaroArm for FAI and have laser scanning for model matching.

Pressure Equipment

We make castings that meet the requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED). Our parts are critical components in machines and assemblies that bear the CE mark for export to Europe and the rest of the world. AS9100D(2016)/ISO 9001:2015 registration enables us and our customers to perform in process certification of pressure components. This eliminates the costly need to hire a notifying body to perform on site inspections.

Supply Chain Management

We simplify supply chain management for you. We have the systems and expertise to provide turnkey solutions for your project. We work with value-added partners for machined castings, polishing, plating, painting, powder coating, heat treatment, and assembly. We can provide one stop shopping or any intermediate level of completion that is appropriate for your project. We have well over a century of knowledge and experience in land and maritime weapons systems and platforms. Our foundry produces castings for some of the most advanced weapons systems in use by our armed forces today. AS9100D(2016)/ISO 9001:2015 certification prequalifies SPBA for DoD supplier approval.

Tough casting design? Bring it on.

We have the expertise and systems to turn your most difficult designs into high quality components. SPBA specializes in non-ferrous castings that require a little or a lot extra. Our abilities in extremely complex, difficult to cast bronze and aluminum castings carry over into all of our work. We bring value to help you be more profitable.

Use Good Design Principles

1. St. Paul Foundry is providing this information on metal characteristics for informational purposes only. Before making a final decision on alloy selection consider the following and all other appropriate design and specification principles. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list.

2. Consult the appropriate specification from an accredited specifying body (ASTM, SAE, Federal or Military) to determine current minimum values of this alloy.

3. Use appropriate design safety factors.

4. Use Failure Modes and Effects Analysis to help identify possible weaknesses in designs and specifications.

5. Use computerized stress analysis tools.

6. Use appropriate certification requirements for your casting suppliers. These may include test bars, chemical certifications, radiography, dye penetrant or other non-destructive testing methods.

7. Test your design to failure in a controlled environment. Then test it to failure in a simulation of its end use.

8. You and you alone are responsible for the suitability of your design and the materials that you select.
